Your Vertical Body

There are no perfect figures and no problem figures!

Your Vertical Body is about the proportions of your body from head to toe and how different parts of the body relate to each other. Everyone's measurements are different and there is no right or wrong size to be.

We all have bits of our body that we like and bits we don't like. How you like to dress and show off your shape will be different to the way someone else wants to dress. Let's look at your vertical body!

Sizing can be a problem

The 5 basic body types are purely generic because few of us have perfect proportions and everyone's figure is slightly different. Do you sometimes feel you're the only woman who can't find clothes to fit?

Literally millions of women wear the same dress size so you can understand why it's often necessary to adjust clothes to fit your own unique body shape. It's frustrating to say the least, but there are very few women who can buy ready-to-wear clothes that fit perfectly.

When trying to find clothes to fit, does it make you feel FAT, SKINNY, TOO SHORT, TOO TALL? No wonder so many women have a complex about the way they look!

Time was when clothes were handmade or homemade and made to fit the individual, but now clothes are mostly mass produced and cut to a pattern. But WE are not cut to a pattern. We are all unique individuals, different shapes and sizes just as nature intended us to be.

So many reasons why clothes don't fit!

  • A woman's body is not cut to a pattern
  • Mass produced clothes are 'mostly' cheaply made and not consistent
  • Garments manufactured/distributed around the world have no size regulations
  • Millions of women wear the same size but measurements may be different
  • Manufacturers cut their garments to fit different body shapes
  • Fast fashion means little investment in cut or fabric

So...

  • Don't get hung up about the size label
  • Aim for a good fit and be prepared to size up or down if necessary
  • If a quality garment needs attention it's worth having it tailored to fit

Proportions will vary from person to person!

Although vertical proportions vary tremendously from woman to woman, it's generally accepted that there are three main types;

  • short legs and long torso
  • a balanced top and bottom
  • long legs and short torso

Each type has it's own unique characteristics and requires specific styling choices so as to achieve a balanced vertical body.

Measurements and sizes mean nothing...  it's how you FEEL that counts. One woman would like to be taller while another relishes the idea of male protection.

The way you use Color, Shape and Style can visually change your body proportions. A bit of visual cheating is allowed...
