There's a very easy way to find your best colors just by identifying your primary color characteristic.
Of course this isn't the same as an indepth Online Color Analysis but by asking yourself a few questions it will help you to look objectively at your own natural coloring.
The natural colorings in our EYES, HAIR and SKIN can be described in exactly the same way as we describe colors - we call them color characteristics.
This is the way we might describe someone's coloring - they're easy features to spot.
Look at a few familiar faces and ask a few simple questions.
Let's not complicate matters - we're just going to look for the obvious - what we really know, what we don't know doesn't matter.
For example, we ask "Is she FAIR or DARK?" If she's somewhere in the middle the answer is 'don't know" or "neither'. It's not obvious and doesn't influence anything so move on.
Color Analysis matches natural color characteristics with the characteristics of a Color Family. This little exercise will help you to find your best colors.
Cate Blanchett is obviously LIGHT
The first thing you notice is that she is very fair - her most obvious Color characteristic is Light. When she wears these tones her natural coloring is complemented. Wearing Deep shades is overpowering to a light complexion draining the face of natural color and creating shadows. In fact it's ageing!
Eva Langoria DEEP
Beautiful lady, dark hair, dark eyes, deep toned skin - it's the thing that is very obvious. The Deep toned colors 'balance' her natural coloring perfectly.
Katy Perry is BRIGHT
Katy Perry's dark hair, fair skin and stunningly bright eyes needs the clearest colors to match her brilliance. These colors have complete clarity with no influence from an undertone. She has elements of both Warm and Cool.
Olivia Palermo is SOFT/MUTED
It's not easy to define Muted as it has confusing color characteristics but I think it's quite evident that Olivia's coloring is definitely soft and well blended. She actually has confusing color characteristics and is often mistakenly determined Autumn, sometimes even a Summer - both color families have Muted in their genetic makeup which explains it.
Marcia Cross is WARM
Marcia has obvious red hair and a peach tone to her cheeks - in fact there's a beautiful 'golden glow' about her and she sits perfectly within the Warm circle.
The Duchess of Cambridge is COOL
Mid-toned pink skin, a grey cast to the eye whether it's blue, green or brown, and mid brown hair. Our beautiful Duchess, Kate, loves to wear her brightest colors and is a perfect Cool. It's just very difficult sometimes to find photographs that I'm able to use!
1. Are you LIGHT or DEEP? Only answer if it's obvious.
2. Are you BRIGHT or SOFT/MUTED? Again only answer if it's obvious.
3. Are you WARM or COOL? If you first two questions are not obvious, this may be the one for you.
