Let's have a Winter Color Wake Up and bring those SAFE neutrals to life!

Let me guess… Winter is long and suddenly everything you wear has turned into a beautiful (but boring) sea of black, grey, navy, and beige.

And honestly, I get it. Neutrals feel easy, they feel 'grown up, they feel elegant and I'm always harping on about how they have to come first!

Well they do BUT sometimes if the neutral is a little heavy against your face it can make you look tired and, at this stage of the season, we are BORED with it and so is our Winter-worn skin! So be smart about what you wear under your face!

The good news? It's a simple fix and it doesn’t require a whole new wardrobe.

Retreating into SAFE neutrals!

Winter has a way of making even the most stylish woman retreat into 'safe' clothes.

• Black feels slimming and chic.
• Navy feels classic and polished.
• Beige feels soft and refined.

So why do we sometimes look in the mirror and think 'I don't look as fresh as I'd like to'. Usually, it's not the neutral itself it's what it's doing right under your face. 

When the area near your face is very dark, very dull, or too close to your skin tone, it can:

• pull the light down
• make shadows look stronger
• make your whole look feel a little flat (even if the outfit is expensive)

Now the MAGIC! 

The good news is that you don’t need a new wardrobe, you just need ONE simple, elegant habit.

Here’s the trick I recommend again and again because it works so well. 

Build your outfit in your best neutrals… then add ONE energizing accent near your face. This can be...

• a scarf
• a top peeking out under a cardigan 
• earrings, a necklace or brooch
• colorful glasses frame
• a bolder lipstick - yes even a lipstick can be a powerful splash of color!

It’s a small move, but it changes the whole “light” of your face—especially in winter.

Wearing silver jewelry? Leaning Cool?

If you look best in silver jewelry and cooler shades you're probably wearing black, gray, navy - wonderful. 

BUT you and your Winter-worn skin are feeling tired so it's time for a Winter color shake up!

Add some magic with raspberry, magenta, cobalt, sapphire or emerald. And add a blue-red lipstick!  

Glow in gold? Leaning Warm?

If you glow in gold jewelry and warmer shades you have looked wonderful in the seasons' favorite chocolate brown along with camel and tans.

BUT you've had to brave the Winter weather too and are ready to add your own kind of color magic! 

Add some Warm energizers with the rich tones of coral, tomato red, teal, warm emerald, rust and golden mustard with a Warm berry lipstick. lipstick.

If your coloring is Softer...

If your coloring is softer then strong color can be over-whelming and you tend to disappear. 

You probably choose to wear more dusky neutrals like mushroom, light camel, dove gray, soft navy.  

Special magic colors for you are delicate and gentle - try...

• Dusty rose
• Soft teal
• Mauve or soft plum

This week’s tiny style challenge! Pick your favorite neutral outfit this week then add just ONE energizing accent near your face. Just one.

And when you look in the mirror, don’t ask yourself 'Do I look trendy?' just ask yourself 'Do I look more alive?'
