Hey everyone...

Thank you to Pamela for inviting me to her corner of the Internet.

I'm a 49 year old busty apple shaped blogger and I'd like to share some of my favorite style tips. Along the way I've learned how to dress and flatter my midlife body - (36HH anyone?).

I hope these tips will help you to dress yourself with style too.

Top tips from a Busty Apple Shape

1 Dress with a third piece

That means you have your top, a bottom and then a third piece that you wear over the top of them both which pulls it together as an outfit.

That could be a jacket, sweater or even a large scarf. It’s also a helpful piece that covers the dents and rolls that come from your bra strap or a waistband.

It's even better if it creates a vertical line so look for a sweater or jacket that hangs softly or a scarf like this one which brings the eye down.

This assymetric look is good too as there's no sharp cut off point - the line continues down.

2 Create the illusion of a 'column'

What that means is that it’s flattering to create a line of the same color from top to bottom. For me dark colors work the best and there are two ways of doing it.

One is to have your top and bottom in the same color and choose your third piece in a different shade. This works equally well with a dress when you wear a jacket or sweater over the top like on the right and in the image at the top of the page. The dark tights and boots keep the color going.

Or you could have the third piece matching your bottom item and the top underneath a different color.

Either way you’re creating a long line of one color which elongates that busty apple shape making you look slimmer and taller.

3 Shop with patience...

Shopping is hard for a busty apple shape as there are so few designers who design specially for us.  So some quick tips:

  • Don't shop online until you are familiar with a brand. It's so disheartening to order 5 things and send them all back.
  • Give yourself lots of time and take lots of things into the dressing room. Don't be embarrassed about the amount you're taking in because you’ll have to try on lots of things just to find one. I honestly try on 50 things to find one that fits and looks good. But it’s worth the effort!
  • When you're in the dressing room and something doesn't look good repeat to yourself "It's not me. It's the clothes." It's the dumb piece of fabric making you look bad and with another cut you can look good! Don't blame your body blame the bad design that doesn't take our shape into account.

  • Don't buy something just because it fits although it’s hard not to because you’re so thankful to find something that does actually fit. If you don't look at yourself in the mirror and say "I'm one foxy lady!" when you have it on, put it back. There are clothes out there that'll make you look good and you deserve to love those items when you're spending your hard-earned money.
