Spring chic!

Add French style...

Looking for some spring chic for your city break? Add French style to your wardrobe essentials.

Whether it's Springtime in Paris or May in Milan there's so much to learn from the style of European women.

No-one does 'chic' like a Frenchwoman and there is so much we can learn from her innate sense of elegance and style. Whatever the city you're guaranteed to get 'the look'.

We all love our denim - none so more than the French. Jeans are now high fashion - they're featured here in the Anthony Vaccarello runway show for Spring 2016.

They're always stylish, always in dark shades and never teamed with sneakers - they're always beautifully presented.

Grooming comes first...

Taking care of both herself and her clothes are priorities for a French woman - in fact for most Europeans.

Spring chic depends being polished and well groomed with clothes that fit properly.  Quality over quantity and a good fit is essential for comfort and relaxed confidence.

If you're not able to buy top quality, caring for your clothes will make them look more expensive and help them to last longer.

Frenchwomen are never flashy and their hair and makeup is subtle. They are much more concerned with taking care of their skin and favor the 'au naturel' look.

Add Spring Chic to your essentials...

A Frenchwoman is able to easily transition into a new season. She uses her basic capsule wardrobe; adds her own inimitable je ne sais quoi and with a few additions makes it work for the new season ahead.

French fashion style consists of the wardrobe essentials of cashmere sweaters and cardigans, simple dresses and denims which are used at any time of the year.

Both men and women dress for Spring with the ultimate accessory - the scarf - in cashmere, linen or silk.

Wherever you are in the world blue skies can suddenly take on a chill so be prepared to layer. Make sure your scarf can cope with the chills and don't forget a fold-up umbrella.

With the French penchant for neutrals, accessories are King!

Coat or Jacket

Spring weather is notoriously unpredicatable so be prepared to keep out the wind or the showers.  If it's cold the French will still be wearing cashmere, a full length trench coat or even a short trench type jacket. Add a smart jacket to the mix that you can wear with either stylish jeans (dark blue or bright colors) or with tailored neutrals. Whatever your style you can find Spring Chic!

Footwear for comfort and style...

City living needs comfortable but stylish walking shoes.  Trainers or running shoes are for just that, running so leave your trainers at home - although a young Parisian will happily wear Converse sneakers with skinny jeans.

You will walk miles in Paris - up and down steps, slippery cobbles, marble shopping arcades - and although comfort has to be top priority you should never forget the style. Ballet flats, loafers and gladiator sandals are always in vogue so choose carefully for cushioned comfort and quality leather.

A quality bag and belt...

Carry a good-sized leather handbag, quality and style need to go hand in hand - an across the body bag is comfortable and safe - make sure you pack your umbrella and sunglasses. Add extra style with a statement belt.

Always add a scarf...

Whether your Spring choice is a simple dress, separates or denims, everyone needs scarves - they're worn in Paris by men, women and children. Parisians love neutrals, and they always predominate - but they also love to add splashes of color.

What to copy and what to avoid...
